I do believe that last time I showed you a glimpse of this room, it looked something like this:
Things started looking a good deal more bathroom-like with the addition of an actual bath.
I am a little bit in love with this tub.
It’s sleek and modern and sculptural, but it also has kind of a playful boat-like feel to it. This is predominantly the kids’ bathroom, and I love watching them sit in this tub like they’re about to set sail on the high seas.
Once I thought to lean our wooden ladder up against the end wall, the look of this room started to come together a bit more. But it was still missing something.
Inspired by this picture, I found this lovely tiered glass apothecary jar online. When it arrived, I sat it on the counter for a few days while I thought about how to fill it.
I loved the idea of white bar-soaps, but it proved more difficult than expected to find soap that was a) pure white instead of cream or yellow, and b) square-edged. I’m fussy about those little details.
So instead, I drew inspiration from the room itself. I’m big on trying to capture the “feel” of a room. In this bathroom, I’m going for a relaxed modern beachy vibe, using VJ panelling on the walls, a natural timber floor, and a predominantly white colour-scheme offset with soft sea-green. And what says “beach” better than shells?
When I saw these bags of shells for $2.50 at the Reject Shop, I knew they’d be perfect. Sometimes bags of shells can be highly coloured, almost brown. These varied from pearlescent white to pale sand – exactly the kind of feel I was after.
I thought about keeping the shell varieties separate in each layer, but in the end thought they looked nicer mixed together for a bit of contrast.
Lastly, I filled the top tier with white bath bombs I already had in my basket of home-spa goodies. I like the kind of laid-back hotel-luxe feel this gives, and the fact that I only have to lift off the top lid to grab out a bath bomb when I feel like an indulgent soak in the tub.
(Which, by the way, has only happened once since we moved into this house – and I managed to overflow the bath in the process and flood our entire hallway. Just keeping it real.)
The other side of the bathroom is not as pretty – just a shower stall, which would look better frameless in a bathroom this small, but one cannot have everything on one’s wishlist.
Overall though, I am just in love with our new bathroom! It has a lovely fresh and calming feel.
Still on the to-do list:
- Some sort of window treatment (just for decorative purposes, as the window itself is high and narrow and frosted glass) – I’m thinking a black and white striped valance. Problem: I can’t sew. Like, really can’t. Note to self: explore the option of fusible webbing.
- Hang some art on the wall opposite the vanity. I even already have the pictures I want to use. I just have to hang them!
- Style this puppy! It won’t need much as I don’t want it to feel busy, but I’m thinking a striped bathmat and a simple branch in a vase would make it feel complete.
So… that’s our beachified bathroom. More rooms coming up as I walk you through our entire house! Even though I don’t make the time for it as often as I’d like, I’m a big fan of the long slow soak in the tub. There’s nothing else quite as relaxing.
Who here’s a bath lover? Bath hater? Bath over-flower…?
Can I come soak in your tub? It looks lovely and relaxing!
It's gorgeous!!! That tub. That floor. The ladder. I've been wanting to lean a leader too but my bath is too small. Maybe when we finally remodel our basement bath.

Thank you so much! The flooring felt like a bit of a risk – we've always tiled wet areas before. But I'm so happy we went with the timber. It gives such a nice feel. Good luck with your bath remodelling!
I'm a little bit in love with our tub. You can come for a soak anytime! 😉 xo
I love beachy themes in the bathroom!! Beautiful… We have no bath so am super jealous!!
Thank you Karla! 🙂 I'm hearing ya – we had no bath for a number of years, and I missed it like crazy! I don't use ours as often as I would like – but when I do make the time, it's so relaxing.

Hope I haven't written twice Karen – didn't think it was so difficult the last time! Anyway, was asking you about the flooring. It looks lovely and was wondering if there are some kinds more waterproof than others as am thinking of replacing the tiles in the kitchen someday – but it would have to be DIY – Peter wouldn't have it any other way!!
Timber floors are absolutely perfect for a kitchen! Much more forgiving than tiles if you drop something. 😉 We've had timber floors in three of our kitchens and have been really happy with them. Any hardwood suitable for flooring would be much the same when it comes to spills – the varnish is what seals the timber and makes it water resistant. Hope that helps! 🙂

Of course you are in love with the tub, who wouldn't be!!! It's actually my dream tub. I am doing a beachy theme in our hall bath in our new home. It's just a standard bath, but I've found some cute things for it. I've picked a very similar color. Great job, your bathroom is lovely.
Thank you, Kathleen! Your beachy-themed bathroom sounds like a fun project. Seems like we have similar taste!

I love how it turned out. It is modern but warm. Is the wall color a light green? I love it with the contrast of the stark white. And the water faucet handles on the wall, not in the tub is amazing! That is so cool

Thank you so much, Emily! Yes, the walls are a really light green. 🙂
