I’m part of the My Home Style Christmas tree blog hop today, hosted by Casa Watkins. If you came here from Farmhouse 40, welcome!
If you saw my Christmas home tour last week, you’ll know there were lots of little DIYs that went into decorating the space. Today I’d like to share our sweet and simple handmade Christmas tree. It was so easy and cost hardly anything to put together.
To begin with, I chose a colour scheme of copper, white, and kraft paper. I wanted a simple and neutral look this year. I started by purchasing some copper and white baubles.
Then I made paper doily ornaments and bunting to decorate the tree.
Here’s how I made the bunting. I had some white cheesecloth at home already, and I love how it’s a bit textured and opaque – but any plain white fabric would do.
Start by cutting a long strip of your fabric. I didn’t measure anything because I was going for a handmade look, and that means some imperfections are part of it. Next, snip your fabric into triangles.
Grab some jute twine.
Use a hot glue gun to make a line of glue on the top of the fabric triangles, then adhere the twine.
And that’s it! Too easy. Gluing all those triangles onto the twine is time-consuming, but put some Christmas music on and you’ll be done before you know it.
Next, the paper doily ornaments. I picked up a pack of 20 miniature paper doilies from the scrapbooking section of my local craft store.
Start by stamping some stars with white paint onto kraft paper. I used a stamp handmade from a piece of craft foam. (I also used this stamp to create my Christmas wrapping paper.)
Next, trace a circle around each star (I used the bottom of the stamp), cut them out, and glue them to the centre of each doily. (Note: If you have a craft punch that’s big enough, you could punch your circles first and then stamp the stars onto them to save some time.)
Finish by passing a length of jute string through one of the holes in the doily to make a hanging loop.
Finished! Simplest tree ornaments ever. I’m loving the sweet and pretty effect of the lace.
You can see how the star motif from the tree is repeated in the hand-stamped wrapping paper of the presents underneath.
I also echoed the lace and kraft paper theme in my DIY Christmas crackers.

Once you’ve finished reading here, hop on over to Organize Nashville, where you’ll find the next stop on the Christmas tree tour. It’s been so much fun to see such a wide range of styles and decorating ideas.
