In my opinion, the very best DIY’s are the easy ones. I was looking for a simple and inexpensive way to make a Christmas wall hanging, when I came across a gorgeous tea towel in Adairs. It was so pretty, it almost looked like a work of art.
That got me thinking. Why shouldn’t a beautiful tea towel be used as textile art?
And that’s how this super-easy project was born.
The best part is that if you make your wall hanging using this method, you can easily switch out your tea towels for different seasonal events – or even use a more generic tea towel that could hang on your wall, year-round. The system is completely flexible. It also takes up next to no room to store!
Here’s how to make it.

DIY Christmas wall hanging
You will need:
- 2 pieces of flat timber moulding, each a little longer than the width of the tea towel
- Black spray paint (you could also use timber stain for a different look, like in this project!)
- Velcro hook and loop tape
- Black cord
- Staple gun
- Tea towel in a Christmas design
Here are a range of beautiful Christmas tea towels, any of which would look stunning displayed as a wall hanging! Click any image to see it on Amazon.
First, spray paint your timber trim, and let it dry.
Then cut a length of velcro hook and loop tape, and attach one side to the very top of the tea towel, on the front side of the design. Try to get the tape flush with the edge of the tea towel, so it it will be covered nicely by the trim.
Attach the other side of the tape to the back of the timber trim.
Then attach your trim by pressing it onto the tea towel.
Use a staple gun to attach cord at each side for hanging… and you’re done! Display your Christmas tea towel art proudly!
It is so lightweight to hang that a clear command hook would suffice.
When you next want to change out your wall hanging, just peel the tea towel away from the trim, and add a new one in its place. Easy!
I hope you enjoyed this simple idea to bring some Christmas cheer to your home.
Wishing you a house full of sunshine!
