If you’ve been following the series on my parents’ beach house build (which I’ve fancily dubbed the “Hamptons House”) you’ll know I have a thing for Hamptons style. It’s always been timeless, but over the last few years it’s experienced an even bigger resurgence in popularity.
I wanted to pull together some sourcing ideas so you can get the Hamptons look for yourself. Imagine my surprise when I found an absolute treasure trove of Hamptons furniture and décor on Amazon. Yes – that’s right! Amazon! Turns out it’s pretty much a one-stop shop for all your Hamptons-home dreams.
You may be wondering – what makes something “Hamptons style”?
Traditionally, Hamptons style is quite tailored and preppy, with a coastal vibe. Think:
- Tufted seat backs
- Piped upholstery
- Nailhead trim
- Lots of navy and white
- Stripes – from broad to ticking
- Ginger jars
- White panelling (on walls, ceilings and/or furniture)
- Glass fronted cabinets
- Bookcases with a library ladder
- X detailing on benches, dining chairs and consoles
- Model sailboats
- Nautical-style tripod floor lamps
- Lattice patterns
But in recent years it’s taken on more of a relaxed, modern-coastal vibe, incorporating elements like:
- Slipcovered couches
- Wicker, rattan and bamboo
- Jute and sisal rugs
- Shibori cushions (throw pillows)
- Modern abstract art in ocean tones
- Belly baskets + seagrass baskets
Whether you’re going for a tailored, formal Hamptons look or something more relaxed and contemporary, this roundup has a bit of everything for you.
